SPARKLE periodic table of coaching tools
The SPARKLE periodic table of coaching tools is the work of Laura Komócsin Master Certified Coach. Designed to serve as a support instrument for professionals, it organises various coaching tools into a one-page coherent table format. This compact summary is based on Mendeleev’s periodic table of elements and the SPARKLE coaching model. It serves as a useful aid for beginner and experienced coaches alike to ensure their client´s satisfaction by the end of the coaching process.
Overview
The SPARKLE periodic table of coaching tools systematically organises coaching tools, assigning each tool their own “symbol” or abbreviation. The full name of the coaching tools are noted underneath each symbol. The table contains 100+ different coaching tools altogether.
Structure
Similar to Mendeleev’s periodic table, there are 7 rows in the SPARKLE periodic table, each row corresponding to one of the 7 phases of the SPARKLE coaching process. Coaching tools are divided into 18 columns, each column containing similar tools like visual or creative writing tools, or tools best used in business and executive coaching.
The first and last columns of the table are of key importance as they contain the most frequently used tools in a given coaching phase: applying the tools in these two columns only ensures the successful completion of any coaching process. Additional elements in-between can be used when there is sufficient time to focus more on specific phases of the coaching process.
The periodic table is colour coded: orange indicates the tools that can also be used in team coaching processes.
The two bottom rows underneath the periodic table include icebreakers and general tools that can be used in any phase of the coaching process.
The history of the SPARKLE periodic table
The SPARKLE periodic table originates from Laura Komócsin, Hungarian coach, lifetime award winner and ICF certified Master Certified Coach. The first version of the coaching periodic table was created in 2021, and underwent a thorough testing phase. Modifications were based on feedback from 50 volunteer testers, including chemists, chemistry teachers, HR specialists and persons involved in both professional fields.
